Both of you need your own account, and you add each other as friends in the app. Lovense says friends cannot see each other's friend lists.

Lag and dropouts

Because commands travel over the internet, there can be a short delay between your partner moving a slider and the toy responding. A stable Wi-Fi connection on both ends helps. If the toy disconnects, the usual causes are the phone being too far from the toy, the phone's Bluetooth or the app being closed in the background, or out-of-date firmware. Lovense says firmware updates can improve Bluetooth connectivity, and the app shows an update icon when one is available.

Privacy

A few sensible precautions:

• Only accept control requests from people you know, and use the app's block option for anyone else.
• Use a strong, unique password for your Lovense account.
• Check which phone permissions you grant. Lovense says the app asks for things like camera and microphone access only for the features that use them, and you can refuse them.
